Report

Teaching materials shouldn’t make children learn one alphabet and read another. A handwriting lesson may introduce one form of I, J, q, 4 or 9, only for the workbook instructions, reading passages and math exercises to switch immediately to conventional publishing forms. Report was designed to reduce that disconnect.

Developed from handwriting-instruction typography for broader reading and publishing use, Report combines rounded geometric construction with letterforms associated with the way children are taught to write. Alternate characters let publishers adjust forms such as q, 9 and J when a curriculum or regional convention requires a different model.

That makes Report useful far beyond the tracing page. Phonics workbooks, early-reader series, spelling exercises, literacy programs and classroom activity books can use the same family for directions, examples, headings and reading material. Regular, Semi-Bold and Bold weights with matching italics provide enough hierarchy for complete educational systems rather than isolated worksheet headings.

Elementary mathematics presents the same problem with numerals. Differences between forms of 4 or 9 become much more important when the page is teaching children how numbers are written. Report can handle arithmetic exercises, numeracy workbooks, worked examples and supporting instructions while keeping the typographic vocabulary close to classroom instruction.

Digital learning extends that need for consistency. Phonics apps, literacy platforms, tutoring systems and reading-intervention programs increasingly move lessons between tablets, classroom displays, printable worksheets and take-home material. Report can provide a common typographic thread across those environments, keeping the forms demonstrated in an exercise connected to the typography surrounding it.

Science-center activities, museum learning guides, educational kits and experiment sets can use Report for the same reason: its rounded terminals make the geometry approachable without turning the material cartoonish.

Report carries the letterforms of instruction into the rest of the lesson, giving handwriting practice, reading, mathematics and digital learning a more coherent typographic vocabulary.
