Encercle Draft

A sketch can lose something when all of its annotations suddenly look typeset. Perfect circles, boxes and labels may make a floor plan or concept diagram feel more resolved than the idea itself, while hand-drawing every callout becomes tedious as soon as the numbering changes. Encercle Draft keeps the working-drawing character while turning the repetitive part into an editable typographic system.

Draft combines casual architectural-style lettering with a framing system that can enclose labels of up to six characters in 17 different shapes. Numbers, letters and short codes remain editable as text, with inverse forms available when particular markers need stronger emphasis.

Architecture is its most natural setting. Schematic floor plans, renovation proposals, annotated elevations, competition boards and design-development diagrams often need room numbers, zone identifiers, material references and keyed callouts long before the project reaches final documentation. Encercle Draft lets those markers stay visually connected to sketches and preliminary drawings while remaining easy to revise throughout the process.

Interior, landscape and product design present the same problem. Furniture layouts, lighting concepts, planting plans, site studies, prototype diagrams and fabrication presentations can accumulate dozens of short references. Different frame shapes can distinguish areas, materials, components or stages while preserving the informal quality of a designer’s annotation.

Draft is also useful when a proposal is intentionally provisional. Urban-planning studies, public-consultation boards, early site concepts and renovation options can benefit from markers that look appropriate to work still under discussion rather than a finished information system. Architecture schools, design studios, maker spaces and workshops can use the same approach for presentation boards, critique diagrams, woodworking plans and instructional sketches.

Encercle Draft grew from practical feedback from an architect who wanted a simpler way to create framed identifiers. Its automatic framing depends on typographic feature support, so applications without the necessary substitution support may require labels to be generated elsewhere and imported.
